Wanderlia Silva and the famed Chute Boxe academy was once one of the most feared fight teams in Vale Tudo however after a recent disqualification in a boxing fight against Brazilian Boxing legend Popo Freitas from an intentional head butt a ring filling Melee ensued when both corners entered the ring.
Following a flurry of punchers by both team Wanderlia Silva laid unconscious on the floor after being knocked out following two strikes landed from Popo Freitas son Rafael Freitas. Silva who is 49 years of age had submitted a declaration in the UFC lawsuit settlement where he had disclosed CTE and TBI like symptoms leading many to wonder why the MMA legend was given clearance to compete in Brazil in the first place.
The Brazilian National Boxing Council CNB has suspended Pop Freitas 180 days, Andre Dida 365, Luis Claudio Freitas, Iago Futierrez Freitas 180days while Rafael Freitas (the one who landed the KO punch on Wanderlia Silva) Thor Silva and Fabricio Werdum have officially received no actions from the CNB as they were not licensed for the event.
Cris Cyborg a long time member of the Chute Boxe Academy said this, “It was really sad to witness and I am praying for everyone involved. Wanderlia Silva is a legend and the rules and integrity of our sport need to keep fighters safe before, during, and after a fight.”
