
Cinco De Mayo and boxing have become a bit of Tradition, and if Cecilia Braekhus has her way, it just started another tradition–Female fights on the HBO network. Braekhus fight against Kali Reis became the first female fight in the history of the television channel. Following a hard fought 10 round decision, Braekhus was able to keep her 147lbs titles for the 22nd time after surviving a knock down in the 7th and being visibly rocked in the 8th round against Kali Reis. The bout was the co main event of the Genndy Golovkin V Vanes Martirosyan at the StubHub Center. The final scores were 97-92,96-93, and 96-93. https://youtu.be/ydAJjCmJmTA “It was such a hard fight. She is an amazing and tough fighter,” Braekhus said. “I think she gave me a very tough fight and I think it was very close. She had some very good hard punches and actually one or two times I was surprised. I just have to give her all the credit. A rematch, a rematch for sure. Let’s do a rematch.” At Ringside watching the historic first boxing fight for HBO to include women was UFC Featherweight champion Cris Cyborg who was wearing a “Cyborg Vs Braekhus 2019” T-shirt said that she hopes to fulfill her dream of a professional boxing match. Speaking to Ringside media, Cyborg revealed she has two fighting on her current UFC contract and then hopes to fight Braekhus. Cyborg went on to say, “A boxing match is my dream, it’s a challenge to myself. I’ve already done wrestling, jiu jitsu, Muay Thai. I never did boxing and I want to do it against the best in the world. I want to challenge myself to be the best I can.” Will be see Cyborg Vs. Braekhus in 2019?
