Jailton Almedia told fans he planned to drop down to Light Heavyweight after his recent short notice defeat at Heavyweight for the UFC, however not even the promise of changing weight classes could keep the top 10 ranked heavyweight in the promotion.
News of Almeida’s release first came from Laerte Viana before eventually being confirmed. With back-to-back losses including Alexander Volkov and Rizan Kuniev the promotion released Almeida from his UFC contract despite him recently signing a new multi fight deal to accept the Kuniev fight on short notice.
Almeida despite being ranked top 10 in the UFC will now be looking for work elsewhere as Dana white said after his UFC 321 victory “you can’t win a fight by just laying on top of somebody, that is not how it works. I was actually very happy with the way the judges scored that fight.”
No immediate news on where Almeida will land next, however for fans this shows that the UFC is certainly putting more emphasis on a fan friendly fighting style rather than a win to advance format typically seen in traditional sports.
