With the end of the Rizin FF event in Japan, the year for 2015 MMA has finally come to a close.  With that, Fighter’s Only Magazine has released it’s nominees for the 7th annual World MMA Awards, being held Feb. 5th 2015 in Las Vegas Nevada.

Dubbed as the ‘MMA Oscars’ by many within the industry, the Female Fighter of the Year nominees for 2015 included; Holly Holm (UFC), Ronda Rousey (UFC), Tonya Evinger (INVICTA FC), Angela Lee (ONE), and Joanna Jedrzejczyk (UFC).

Noticeably missing from the list of names eligible for the Female Fighter of the Year nominees was 2x award winner Cristiane ‘CYBORG’ Justino, this despite having kept her 10 year unbeaten streak with 2 dominate KO wins that brought her Fighter of the Year and KO of the year in the recent 2015 FAN CHOICE INVICTA Awards.

While ESPN writer Brett Okamoto currently has Cris Cyborg ranked as his #1 P4P female fighter, and is also nominated in the category of MMA Journalist of the year, it should be noted that the voting staff of Fighter’s Only Magazine voted Angela Lee as more deserving of the nominee for BEST FEMALE FIGHTER OF THE YEAR.

Making her pro debut in 2015 Angela Lee’s 4-0 record came against opponents with a combined 9 win-13 loss record fighting for the One Championship promotion in Asia.

Cris Cyborg went 2-0 in 2015 with two impressive first round KO victories against Charmaine Tweet and Faith Van Dun, both of which were ranked in the top 10 for 145lbs.  Having won this award in 2009 and 2010, Cris Cyborg finished both of those years with a perfect 2-0 record as well.

When notified that she had not been nominated for the Fighter’s Only Female Fighter of the Year award, Cris Cyborg had this to say, ‘I have an entire house full of trophies and medals from fighting and while they feel good to win, I know that at the end of my career none of that will matter, because there will always be someone new to win them, someone new for the fans to cheer for.’

‘I appreciate my fans because they are loyal and have been with me my entire career, no matter where I fight they show their support. I have the best fans in MMA.   If anything I am relieved I don’t have to worry anymore that Wanderlia is going to show up to the award show wearing the same outfit as me!”

Fans looking forward to seeing Cris compete won’t have to wait long as she is currently scheduled to fight in Costa Mesa California January 16th for Invicta FC, in a bout that will be broadcasted live on the UFC Digital Network Fightpass.
