There have been a few athletes, mostly from the NFL who have had full careers before transferring their skills to MMA. Hershel Walker is an exampled that comes to mind. While NFL is known as ‘Football’ in the USA, internationally Football refers to the sport Americans call ‘Soccer.’ In the sport of Soccer, and perhaps the world–there is no team more famous that Manchester United. Former Manchester United captain Patrice Evra is set to make his amateur MMA debut with the Professional Fighters League.
While 43 years of age, Evra will make his PFL MMA debut May 23rd at the PFL Europe 2 event which will take place in Paris. No opponent was named in the Professional Fighters League press release however the soccer star pushed hard for a Uruguayan soccer player named Luis Suarez who known for infamously ‘flopping’ on opponents.
Born in Senegal, Frenchman Evra has played for Manchester United as well as France’s national team and was captain of the 2010 World Cup Team. Winning multiple premier league titles with Manchester United retired from soccer in 2019 and has been training with Cedric Doumbe, who is a former kickboxing star who transitioned to MMA in 2021 and is currently one of PFL MMA’s biggest stars.
