It is hard to argue that a Cris Cyborg V. Holly Holm fight is the biggest WMMA fight that the UFC is capable of promoting in 2017! Cyborg who is the #1 most watched female fight of all time on FS1, helped make UFC 214 the blockbuster PPV of the summer!  As if the matchmaking wasn’t easy enough, Cris Cyborg went to Twitter and Instagram today to help select the date and the venue.  Changing her Twitter name to #UFC219 CyborgVHolm

After a stelar performance at UFC 214, Cris Cyborg has proven herself to be the A side of the draw.  With a 12 year unbeaten streak, following the victory over Tonya Evinger Cris Cyborg became the first female MMA fighter to ever hold 3 major titles in 3 different MMA promotions, Strikeforce, Invicta FC, and the UFC.  Continuing her dominance Cyborg’s victory over Tonya Evinger via TKO in the 3rd round brought her career TKO/KO victory ratio to an unprecedented 90%

When asked why Cyborg picked Dec 30th as a date she said “There are many factors, however I am at a point in my career where my brand needs a high profile fight in Las Vegas.  Dec 30th will give the UFC plenty of time as my promotional partner to put together a marketing plan to ensure the CyborgVHolm gets the exposure from the media it deserves.”

A follow up question was asked to Cyborg if she would be willing to accept an early fight date, to which she said, “Last year I fought 3 times in 8 months and all 3 of those fights were offered to Holly Holm.  The first we tried to fight her the night Ronda fought Cat Zingano at 145lbs.  We then tried to fight her at 140 lbs  at UFC 198, and then my followup fight at UFC FN 95.  For whatever reasons Holly and her Camp declined all three of those fight dates.  Cyborg went on to say, “When Megan Anderson let the UFC know she wasn’t going to be fighting at UFC 214, Holly had just picked up an easy win in Singapore and we tried to make her the replacement instead of Tonya Evinger, however the UFC was unable to come to term.”

“I have some public appearances and a media tour that are going to require my immediate attention, which is why I want to be able to complete all of those tasks, promote my own brand with the belt, and then have time for a well planned training camp. Dec. 30th is the date that works for me, now it is up to my manager to come to terms with the UFC and for the UFC to come to terms with Holly’s Camp.”

Holm who lost a close decision to GDR saw her record fall to 0-3 before her most recent win in Singapore.  Despite a 1-3 record recently, Holm has proven to be a strong fan favorite after her highlight KO over Ronda Rousey, and audiences both in the USA and Brazil have been asking for this matchup for sometime!
